Chapter Information - Training
Board Members   Chapter Members   Testing   Training   Birds   Fund Raising   Maps

People learn from doing; so you handle your dog with the assistance or direction from other members. We help you train your dog. All members are encouraged to participate and help fellow members, including planting birds, gunning, offering encouragement and sharing knowledge. Don't be shy about things that are new to you! If you don't know how to do something or don't understand a term someone uses, please speak up and someone will gladly show you or explain.

WRC outdoor monthly chapter training clinics begin in March and end in September, as weather permits. We use public field and water training facilities on the Mazomanie Wildlife Area's Dog Training Grounds on Cty Y, 5 miles north of Mazomanie.

NAVHDA training is designed to prepare the dog and handler for hunting and the NAVHDA testing. The training will include pointing; steadiness to wing, shot, and fall; retrieval to hand from land or water; game tracking; gun sensitivity control; heeling; and backing or honoring another dog’s point.

Chapter training clinics offer hands-on training of your gun dog with experienced handlers' assistance. Our goal is for you to have a happy, well-mannered and fully trained versatile gun dog; one who searches with purpose for you, points game with intensity before the shot in the field, and reliably retrieves game after the shot in the field or over water. Check out WRC's Calendar for more information.
