News, Announcements and Really Helpful Information

Thank You!

Thanks so much to all the members who have generously volunteered this year. Thanks to those who gunned so that others could work their dogs, to those who put on miles and endured mosquito bites while planting birds, to those who assisted with training and offered encouragement and sound advice, to those who brought food for training day lunches, and to those that brought shelters and chairs for training and testing days. Your generosity is very much appreciated!

2010 NAVHDA Invitational

Many of you may know that Gary & Jody Jensen, Jim Moe, Donna Cochenet, Paul Grover, and Sean Timmens from the WRC have qualified to handle their dogs in the Invitational. Even if you cannot volunteer to work, you are always welcome to cheer our chapter handlers onward to their goal of having a Versatile Champion Dog.

By now most of you are planning your summer training and testing season. Before you finalize your plans, we want to remind you to attend the 2010 NAVHDA Invitational that is being hosted by Hawkeye Chapter near Searsboro, Iowa. The testing dates are September 23—26 at Grinnell, Iowa.

Last year the Invitational was held in Ohio and NAVHDA members from surrounding chapters came out in full force. Whether you are handing a dog, or coming in as a spectator, working at the Invitational is not only a fun and productive way to see great dog work, it is an outstanding way to learn more about the test. The test requires 40 workers per day so the volunteer needs are greater than any chapter can provide. The Invitational is an International event, which means each of us plays a part in its success.

The preferred point of contact is through the Volunteer Form at http://www.duckswild.com/invitational/voltest.asp which will go directly to Tim Clark. Please fill out the form completely and he’ll do his best to accommodate everyone. Please note that all gun-ners must be approved by the Invitational Committee. If you are interested in being a gunner, contact Marilyn Vetter at mvet-ter@pressenter.com Potential Invitational gunners must have previously gunned at a NAVHDA UT test and a have a note of refer-ence from a NAVHDA judge. Although there are plenty of jobs to go around, you will want to sign up soon to get the job you want.

Thank you,

Timothy Clark
2010 Invitational Volunteer Coordinator

Photos

WRC would really like to have photos of the members with their dogs to put in our Photo Gallery pages. Just email your photo, along with your name and your dog's name to Connie Roewer and she will post it on our website.

In addition, we have a request from David Nordquist, senior judge and member of the Northern Michigan chapter, for photos he can use to create a montage of what NAVHDA is all about. Please follow the link below to find more details.

Member Request - Chapter Photographs

VOLUNTEERS are always needed for our Chapter tests to ensure they are organized and well run. Please consider helping out with our 2011 tests. You can contact Joe Stewart at jjstewy2@yahoo.com to offer your much needed assistance.

Reminders

WATER YOUR DOG - Remember to always bring water for your dog and offer it frequently when working out in the field. The dog covers considerably more ground than the handler while searching for birds, and all that running raises the dog's body temperature. In addition, the air temperature gets very warm in the taller grass. Not only does the water provide the necessary hydration for your dog, but stopping long enough to give water affords the dog a short rest from the activities, an opportunity to settle down and cool off.
