Handler's Clinic and Professional Training Seminar

I just added two new events to the calendar: a Handler's Clinic and a Professional Training Seminar. These will be multi-day events and the Professional Training Seminar will require a fee to attend (to cover costs of hiring a professional trainer, birds, etc.). The details for both events are still being worked out but the dates are set. Head over to the calendar for details and watch for emails on these events from Jacob in the near future.

March Training Day in the Books -- April Coming Up

We had our first training day of the year just a couple of weekends ago and our next training day is already upon us this weekend (April 10th). We had lots of familiar faces and some new ones as well keeping the chapter well stocked with new pups to admire.

I hope you're training is going well and that folks are also getting out in between our monthly chapter training days. Smaller groups training during the week can be very helpful and is also a great way to meet future hunting partners. If you're interested in training during the week, either contact us or bring it up at the next chapter training day.

June Training Day Change and Mazo Grounds Calendar Posted

The June Training Day was moved from June 12th to the 19th. The calendar has been updated.

Also, the Mazomanie Grounds Association has finalized the 2016 schedule for when the training grounds are reserved by dog groups (like ours) for testing and training. You can find a link to that schedule on the training page. You will want to check that calendar before heading out to train since it is reserved for others occasionally.

Spring Training

With the warm weather rolling in, my focus is switching to dog training. Gus and I have gotten out to Mazomanie a couple of times over the last few weeks just exercising and also doing some practice on whoa and fetching. The training fields are looking good -- with the low snowfall amounts we had this winter, the grass is not completely matted down so there is ample cover for planting birds. If your dog is getting restless, now is a good time to get them out running. Also note that as of April 15th, it is illegal to run your dogs loose on DNR land (that does not include designated training areas, of course) until August 1st. With that said, spring can be a good time to get your dog some bird contacts on woodcock as they'll be coming back to their nesting grounds soon. Grouse too, of course! Just be mindful of ticks and if you're going up north, keep an eye on the DNR's Wolf Caution Areas page (the last dog depredation reported was on 9/20 but this is a year round concern).

2016 Training Days Posted

The chapter's 2016 training days have been posted to the calendar. If you use Google Calendar or Microsoft Outlook, you can click on the date and there you will find a link to add the event to Google Calendar or ICS (which will add the event to Microsoft Outlook and probably other calendar applications).

Note that the dates are currently tentative because the Mazomanie Grounds Association has not met yet to confirm but I've been told the dates are pretty solid.
